You decided you were ready to date again. Your body didn't get the memo.

Sep 06, 2026

You did the work. You processed the ending, gave yourself time, arrived at a genuine place of understanding.

And then you went on a date — and something in you just wasn't there.

Not your mind. Something older and quieter. You showed up, engaged, said all the right things. But part of you stayed very still and very far back. Like you were present in the room but not quite in it.

You drove home confused. You were so sure you were ready.

Here's what I want you to understand about that feeling:

Deciding you're ready and actually being ready are two different things. And neither one is wrong.

Your mind can reach a conclusion quickly — especially when you're self-aware and committed to doing the work. But your nervous system moves at its own pace. It isn't responding to your thoughts. It's responding to what it remembers. And what it remembers is being open, and getting hurt.

That behind-glass feeling isn't a sign that something is broken or that the work you did didn't count.

It's your system asking for something that can't be rushed: enough small, safe experiences of being open and finding that nothing terrible happened. That kind of readiness accumulates slowly — through time and through showing up, not through deciding.

You can't force it faster than it arrives.

But you can stop requiring yourself to perform readiness before it's actually there — and that permission alone is often what allows it to arrive.

Have you ever felt ready in your head but found your body told a different story when you actually got back out there?

Warmly,
KC
